Meet Dr. Hooe

Dr. Hooe was born in Detroit Michigan, and raised north of the city in the suburb of Oak Park. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, and then attended the University of Michigan Dental School. As a dental student, Dr. Hooe spent as much time as possible in the oral surgery clinic of the Dental School and University Hospital, gaining valuable insight and experience. As a senior dental student, he was accepted into an oral surgery externship program at Washington Hospital Center, in Washington D.C. This 6-week experience provided intensive 24 – 7 hands on experience involving the entire scope of oral & maxillofacial surgery. Washington Hospital Center is one of the nation’s busiest hospitals.

Dr. Hooe graduated from dental school in 1990, and was accepted that same year into Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of Michigan Hospital. The University of Michigan Hospital is consistently ranked as one of the finest teaching hospitals in the country. Their four-year oral & maxillofacial surgery training program has a dual identity: It is a division of the Department of Surgery within the hospital, but is also part of the Dental School’s graduate training program. Dr. Hooe finished his residency in the summer of 1994, earning a Master of Science degree from the Dental School. His Master’s Thesis researched the best ways of handling bone grafts between the time they are taken from one area, and placed at another. His study was published in the Journal of Oral Medicine, Oral Surgery, and Oral Pathology in July of 1994.

From 1994 – 1996, Dr. Hooe divided his time between private practice and teaching. He was on the staff of Detroit Receiving Hospital, Detroit Sinai Hospital, and Grace Hospital, which is affiliated with the University of Detroit Dental School. Dr. Hooe was certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons in July of 1996.

In 1996, Dr. Hooe left Michigan and moved to Seattle. After associating for a year with an oral surgeon in Renton, Dr. Hooe started North Sound Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Shoreline. Dr. Hooe remains active in advanced continuing education: he recertified his status as a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in 2006. He is a Diplomate of the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology / Implant Dentistry. Dr. Hooe was president of the Washington State Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons from 2004 – 2005, and was a member of the Seattle King County Dental Society’s Executive Board from 2009 – 2010. Although he currently dedicates all of his clinical time to his practice, Dr. Hooe maintains an appointment as an Affiliate Instructor at the University of Washington School of Dentistry. Dr. Hooe is married to Kelley, a general dentist practicing in Seattle, and they have a young daughter. For fun, Dr. Hooe enjoys snowboarding, traveling with is family, and a bit of golf.
